MLSA Meeting9/17/2017 On Saturday September 16th, the following Board members attended the Michigan Lakes and Streams Association meeting held at the Decatur Public Library, President Robert Richter, Vice President Dan Buenz and Dominic Panico. The meeting was well attended by representatives of Lake associations (around 15) of many lakes in our area. The main topics of discussion were riparian rights, keyholing/funneling, water quality, weed issues as well as the creation and maintenance of Special Assessment Districts to fund weed control programs. Many of the representatives reported as having to treat the same invasive weeds that we are treating. A number of the lakes also use Professional Lake Management (PLM) to treat their lakes for invasive weeds. Some lakes are using a different approach to controlling Starry Stonewart algae, They are hiring companies that put divers in the water that actually suck up the algae., and some lakes are using aerators and or pellets to control or eliminate mucky bottoms.. The board members present found the meeting informative and made numerous contacts with representatives of surrounding lake associations. There will be another MLSA mini conference in Lawrence Mi on October 4th that will be attended by your LOW board. Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer. BUT, ITS NOT OVER YET!!!
