Thinking Ahead for 20161/2/2016 Hope everyone had a Merry Xmas and a safe and Happy New Year. We have had little snow and absolutely no ice. BUMMER for some of us. But, our weed management company PLM has sent me information regarding our aquatic management for LOW that I would like to pass on to our members. 2015 was a successful yet challenging year in regards to exotic plant control. We observed slightly more Eurasian Watermilfoil this year than we have seen in the past ten. Treatments were successful in maintaining control but more aggressive management may be required in the future seasons. The exotic macro algae Starry stoneware is becoming more of a problem. We did conduct several "burn down" treatments this year and it is likely that we will need to continue with that in the future. A survey of the lake will be done around April/May to determine any possible areas of Eurasian Watermilfoil growth. Evaluations and spot treatments will be conducted as needed during June, July, and August. The water quality program consists of two samples, occurring in the spring, and late summer each season. The program also tests for (E Coli), in mid summer which can determine the condition of your lake and if the water is safe for swimming. PLM looks forward to the challenge of controlling the algae and weed growth in Lake of the Woods and working with us this summer.

Thanks for your blog on lake-related topics. Since we haven't received a "Lake Currents" since May 2015, the news we read on this site seems to be the new communication channel for association members.
