Green Algae around LOW

11/17/2015

This is from PLM our weed management company concerning the green algae around LOW on November 5th
What is being observed is not uncommon. The lakes have turned over and completely mixed. This means there is probably higher nutrient levels in the surface waters especially when plants are decomposing as well. High nutrient  fuels algae production. Although elevated nutrient is common this time of year, it normally does not produce algae because water temperatures are cold. Given the string of 70 degree days we had last week, it is certain that surface waters warmed to the point where algae could grow. This would be more likely in a confined area that could warm quickly like a bay or channel that would warm fast compared to open water.
This is likely a fluke thing that happened because of the warm period we had last week. This should go away fairly quickly since things are cooling off again.
Hope this answers everyones concerns.  Any questions please contact me.
